Widely regarded as the "Academy Awards for the Ocean," the annual Peter Benchley Ocean Awards™ are the world's preeminent ocean conservation honors. They are unique in acknowledging outstanding achievements across many sectors of society, leading to the protection of our oceans, coasts, and communities that depend on them. Named in honor of Peter Benchley, renowned author of Jaws, the Awards celebrate his enduring legacy and lifelong dedication to raising public awareness about the critical importance of protecting sharks and ocean ecosystems.

Held in partnership with the Aquarium Conservation Partnership (ACP), this year's ceremony will mark the prestigious relaunch of the Awards on May 8, 2025, at the National Aquarium in Baltimore, Maryland. The event coincides with the 50th anniversary of the release of Jaws, underscoring the lasting impact of Peter Benchley's work on popular culture and marine conservation. Proceeds will benefit ACP and its mission to safeguard ocean and freshwater ecosystems by aligning and supporting the conservation efforts of aquariums for greater collective and individual impact.

“I am thrilled that the Peter Benchley Ocean Awards are being relaunched in partnership with ACP. This year’s Benchley Award winners are powerful and compelling leaders in ocean conservation”, said Wendy Benchley, Awards Co-Founder. “Their creative solutions and dedication are making a real difference for sharks, marine ecosystems, and the future of our ocean. I know Peter would be so proud to see these incredible individuals recognized for their passion and meaningful impact on the blue planet he loved so much.”

We are thankful for all of our sponsors, including Seiko and SSA Group."

"The Benchley Awards offer hope by honoring a range of ocean heroes whose work suggests we can still grow solutions faster than the problems confronting our blue world”, said David Helvarg, Author, Executive Director of Blue Frontier and Awards co-founder.
